Stress-assisted corrosion behaviour of Hastelloy N in FLiNaK molten salt environment

چکیده

Abstract The use of molten-salt–based energy production and storage systems requires high-temperature corrosion- creep-resistant structural materials. This study investigated the microstructure evolution corrosion characteristics Hastelloy N under working stress in a molten salt environment. Selective diffusion Cr at grain boundaries (GBs) degraded properties GBs, making them preferred locations for crack invasion. Stress further promoted accelerated GB carbide precipitation, thereby forming couple between matrix that facilitated expansion intergranular cracks into grains. These findings are useful providing advances design novel alloys with extraordinary property-microstructure stability combinations resistant to complex environments.

Corrosion characteristic of AlN, Y2O3, Er2O3 and Al2O3 in Flinak for molten salt blanket system

For liquid breeder blanket system using molten salts, tritium barrier, anti-corrosion barrier, tritium recovery system and heat exchanger make important roles. Especially in the heat exchanger, the tritium permeation from primary coolant loop to secondary coolant loop must be inhibited by the tritium barrier for safety. To develop it, it is essential to optimize chemical stability of the barrie...

Liquid-Tin-Assisted Molten Salt Electrodeposition of Photoresponsive n-Type Silicon Films

Production of silicon film directly by electrodeposition from molten salt would have utility in the manufacturing of photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices owing to the simplicity of the process and the attendant low capital and operating costs. Here, dense and uniform polycrystalline silicon films (thickness up to 60 μm) are electrodeposited on graphite sheet substrates at 650 °C from molten ...

Stress-Assisted Corrosion of Aluminum 6061 in Basic Solution

Caustic stress corrosion cracking has only been superficially examined in aluminum alloys. In caustic (basic) environments, the inherent, protective oxide layer becomes soluble on aluminum and allows for further degradation. The purpose of this study is to observe the effect of a strong base solution (sodium, hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite, sodium silicate, pH ~12) on the strength and stress-st...
